Ebony Pioneers - Celebrating Trailblazers & Unsung Black Women Achievement
Researched and Created by Vanese Smith
Told through the seminal Ebony Magazine archive from the 60s & 70s, Ebony Pioneers is a 10 minute documentary video that profiles 35 black women in underrepresented fields and careers in STEM, business, sports, education, politics, and the arts.
Inspired by my album Bess, a tribute to the first black female pilot Bessie Coleman, and the film Hidden Figures, I researched 240 editions of the monthly Ebony magazine to highlight 35 amazing women.
Ebony Pioneers serves as an educational and inspirational tool to encourage youth in career exploration while celebrating and telling the stories of some incredible women.
